Pictures are one of the backbones of online buying and selling. When a customer, whether retailer or wholesaler browses a shopping website it is the pictures of the items which they respond most to. A buyer while selecting products online depends most on the images. The buyer cannot touch and feel the product therefore the photos of the item becomes very important. Therefore, you the seller have to ensure that the photos of the product uploaded are clear, crisp and showcase every detail.
Creating an outline
Most important is planning. You just do not take pictures casually. You must decide the type of camera with which you are going to take the pictures. Then make a list of what type of shots you need- the angles, highlight some special features etc. Then make sure the background is in contrast to the item to be photographed. You can create a nice setting for the item rather than only photographing the item alone.
Taking pictures
Your products must be in their best condition before the shoot. The product to be photographed should be fully completed and there should be no small mistakes or unfinished touches. Eg. If you are taking pictures of jewellery, you should clean and polish the item perfectly before photographing it.
Always take pictures in such a way that it becomes easy for the customers to identify how it would look when it is use. Eg. If you want to take pictures of a lampshade that you want to sell; instead of simply taking the photo of the lampshade if you set a table, arrange books, picture frames and then keep the lampshade among them in a decorative way, it will create more appeal for the customer.
The photograph should be minimum 500x500 pixels and clear, neat and smart. The product to be sold should be photographed in such a way that it appears most realistic and creates appeal.
Lighting
It is very important that you should never use flash while taking pictures. Using flash changes the natural color of the image and the customers will not be able to see the true colors of your item. Also make sure the lighting is consistent whether it is natural or artificial light.
Editing
Now that you have the pictures that you want, you can make a few changes through editing. Improving the background, correcting margin settings, compression, formatting the size, getting the alignment correct are the most common things which can be done through editing.
